Kosher Spain Summer 2019 Sample Itinerary

Kosher Spain Summer 2019 Sample Itinerary

Catalonia is an area in the north-east corner of Spain, comprising four provinces–Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona. Like all of Spain, this is a very historically rich area, and is currently considered an “autonomous commune”. The area spans from France and Andorra to the north, and the Mediterranean Sea to the east. It is well known for its history, beautiful nature, and incredibly rich food culture.

While perhaps not as well-known as its flashier neighbors Tuscany, Provence, or Andalusia, we feel it is an area worth a kosher summer vacation getting to know. The touring and natural beauty is unparalleled, the people friendly and warm, and the food is simply exquisite. The area is known for its numerous Michelin-starred restaurants. While sitting down for an experimental 12-course dinner at a world-famous is out of reach for the average kosher traveler, the local produce more than makes up for it. Fresh fish, beautiful fruits and vegetables, olives and olive oil, and even a few excellent kosher wineries and Cava producers are on offer in this region.

Our summer 2019 kosher Spain trip will take place at a 16th century Castle. One of the things that we love most about Catalonia is its wide range of activities available. From old to young, whether you love nature, art, food, or relaxing at a pool, there is something perfect for you. Take a look at a sample itinerary below for some examples!

Day 1: Fly into Barcelona, and head from there to your luxurious villa. You will be greeted by a cocktail and light snack. After settling in, a beautiful dinner will be served.

Day 2: Explore the kosher wines of the area, starting of in Penedes for some kosher cava and then Elvi wineries clos mesorah. After the tour and tasting. A tapas dinner will be served back at the villa with some local musicians serenading you with Flamenco.

Day 3: Head south past Barcelona and Tarragona to the Ebro Delta, one of the only places in Europe where rice is grown. There is a nice boat ride to the oyster farms off the coast (you can look, but not touching!)

Day 4: Barcelona, where, after a tour of the city, we will comb through the famous La Boqueria Market for some beautiful produce which you can use for a cooking workshop back at the villa (optional).

Day 5: The Pyrenees mountains, with tax haven Andora at their center is a great day to spend with some exciting Jeeping and off roading, followed by a picnic lunch. Then head back to the villa for Shabbat preparation. Shabbat dinner will be served at the villa.

Day 6: Shabbat. Spend the day relaxing, wandering around the area, and enjoying the beautiful food of the region. An olive oil workshop can be organized for those interested.

Day 7: In the morning head to the gorgeous village of Siurana, which offers amazing kayaking and water activities. Local legend is that this is the oldest village in Catalonia.
